Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) will take place on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:30 pm. There will be a potluck, a silent auction and lots of business including the election of the new Board and approval of the 2019 Proposed Budget. The invitation, full agenda, slate of officers and other information will be sent in the coming weeks. We hope you can join us!

2018 United States Voter Registration and Ballot Request Help! Most US Citizens 18 or older can register to vote and request an absentee ballot from overseas!

Join Tracy and Karen Saturday, September 15 from 11-14 (location in member's section) to register to vote in this year's midterm elections.

The deadline to register to vote is approaching. Your local election official should receive your application at least 45 days before the midterm elections, to be held on November 6, 2018.

That means you need to submit your application now or by early September 18 at the very the latest. 

We will have our laptops ready to help you register to vote and/or request your ballot for the 2018 Midterm elections and answer as many questions as we can about the process.

To be able to process your registration you will need the following information at hand:

• ID: State Driver’s License or ID; last four number of Social Security
• exact address or a precise description the last residence in order to determine the voting district. Only 38 States allow children who were born overseas, but never lived in the U.S. to vote. They will need their U.S. parents’ last residence address to register.  

Don't delay! No rsvp necessary, although it would be nice to know if anyone is coming.

Our traditional Thanksgiving Celebration with great food and thanks will take place on Saturday, November 17. To make this Thanksgiving a special one for those in Hamburg who are less fortunate, ACWH will support the Hamburger Tafel (Hamburg Table), This amazing organization, founded in 1994, has been distributing up to 40 tons of food products to feed 20,000 people every week. The donations at our Thanksgiving will be designated to buy non-perishable foodstuffs—sugar, flour, noodles, etc.—which are not typically donated by supermarkets, hotels and other institutions. Guests are also welcome to bring canned foods which are not past their expiration date. Your donations will help the Hamburger Tafel feed those in need.

AWCH's nomination for the Hazarwadi Open Well won a FAWCO Development Grant of $4500 for the Integrated Tribal and Watershed Development Programme (ITWDP) to finance the construction of an open well in a rural hamlet of 14 tribal families in Maharashtra, India.

AWCH members and friends came together on July 17 for an inspiring evening with Robert d' Costa, director of the ITWDP. We were very surprised but very pleased to learn that the construction of the well has been completed. This open well is concrete-lined well (23x23 feet, depth 35 feet, with a pump and pipeline) that will provide an adequate water supply throughout the year and allow irrigation of a second crop sold for income.
