At the monthly meetings of the Opera Club, we are discovering opera one masterwork at a time. We meet several times to get to know a selected opera and then attend a performance together. Beginners are particularly welcome! Meetings are held Friday mornings in Hamburg-Poppenbüttel.

Starting in 2014 there will be a new monthly event at the Savoy Movie theater in St. Georg: English Movie Night!

Here is how it works: Respond to the evite sent to all AWCH members by email, and tickets will be reserved for you at the theater. You arrive no later than 30 minutes before the movie begins to pick up and pay for your tickets at the ticket desk. Easy!

If you can’t make the showing, your tickets will be deleted from the system at no charge to you.  If you are not there 30 min prior to the showing, your reservation is cancelled and seat reassigned, so don't be late!

Karen Malinowski, our current Secretary and future Vice President, was appointed Currents Editor as of January 1.  We are grateful to have found someone so engaged and qualified, who has even won national prizes for journalism.  Karen will be making a presentation about her vision for Currents at the upcoming AGM, on February 9.  Please try to be there!

 

Introduction from Karen:  

I joined the AWCH in fall 2012 and loved having a club magazine which kept everyone up-to-date on everything that was going on in the club, and also to learn more about my fellow members through the articles and memories they shared in Currents.

Through my studies in the field of Media and Journalism in particular, I have worked for different newspapers, online magazines and event agencies.

Though I have turned my back on journalism for my professional life, my love and passion for fashion will always be rooted in journalism.

Taking over the chief editor position of Currents is very exciting and nevertheless a big challenge. I have big footsteps to fill, after Sus, Allie and Jana have done an incredible job in making Currents to what it is today.

With the help and support of our fantastic column editors, I am confident that we will be able to keep the quality of our articles as high as before and add even more variety to our magazine, enriching it with even more aspects that reflect our club and its members with all its fascinating facets from all over the world.

 

Save the date!  On May 9 we are once again invited to join The American Club for an evening at the theatre!  Appetizers and wine will be served during the intermission, and afterwards there will be an opportunity to meet the actors for dessert.   Last year the play was really funny, the food was amazing, and the actors were incredibly charming.  It was also fun to spend the evening with the guys and gals of The American Club, who will also be joining us for our annual Independence Day Celebration at Cafe Seeterasse. 

This event will be subsidized by AWC. Tickets for the play, including food and drinks, will be available to AWC members for a discounted price of 30EUR!   Look for an invitation with more details coming soon in our AWCH Newsletter.

Please be aware that payment of dues for 2014 is required in order to attend and vote at the Annual General Meeting. Payment of dues in cash at the AGM is unfortunately not possible.
