The committee gathers information on US tax and banking legislation and regulations, and informs the membership if their responsibilities while living overseas. FAWCO develops lists of resources and advisors, and publishes periodic newsletters, presentations, videos, updates and links to media articles and other planning resources for Overseas Americans and “US tax persons”

The Myth of Chanel

Many consider Coco Chanel (1883-1971) to be the greatest female fashion designer of the 20th century. The little black dress or the Chanel-suit and her scent “Chanel No. 5” are inextricably linked to her person. “The Myth of Chanel” considers the question why the person Coco Chanel and her brand continue to attract such great attention. Her biography and the image she created for herself are being looked at, as well as the ingenious way in which Karl Lagerfeld succeeds in linking this heritage with trends and the zeitgeist since 1983.

As reported earlier, FAWCO is supporting the FREE the GIRLS organization for the next two years with fundraising and bra collecting. At the book exchange event at Kara W.'s house and through word of mouth, the AWC Hamburg has collected exactly 50 bras. I will be traveling to the USA in April and have started packing my suitcase with our donations. Thanks to everyone who went through their closets!

Free the Girls works alongside safe houses around the world that rescue women from sex trafficking and provide rehabilitation services. Your donation helps survivors of human trafficking make a living selling used clothing while they recover and build their new life.

They accept gently used bras of all sizes and styles, including sports bras, nursing bras, and camisoles.

 

Free The Girls has been chosen as the FAWCO Target Project for 2014-2016. Over $30,000 dollars have already been raised for this worthy cause and we are excited to report that our AWC Hamburg and Region 5 donated trip to Hamburg raised over $1200 at last night's benefit auction!

FAWCO is raffling off a handmade quilt to support the next FAWCO Target Program.

This year's FAWCO friendship quilt contains 4 squares from AWC Hamburg members, Susan and me, and 2 from my mom!  The motto is Human Rights for Women and Children. The pattern is "Endless Stairs", which reminds us that we can never stop working for women’s rights and for positive change.
