Our open board meetings are always a good way to socialize with your fellow club members, and it's a great way to become more involved. You may listen, speak and vote on subjects discussed. We will strive to keep the meeting to a few hours, including a bit of a respite for snacks (please bring something to share if possible). In 2016, the AWCH donated 110 heart pillows to the Mariahilf Breast Cancer Clinic in Harburg, just south of the Elbe. The pillows were made in February and November during “working bee” open houses in Tracy M.’s home. Over 25 members of the AWC Hamburg have been working on the From the Heart Pillow Project for several years. To date we have donated over 220 pillows that have been made during five different From the Heart Pillow Sewing Bees. These pillows in the shape of a heart are placed under the arm that helps relieve pressure and pain in post-operative breast cancer patients. Materials and stuffing costs can run quite high, and thus far all materials have been purchased through proceeds from the Bagel Fundraiser Sales and through donations by club members. The AWCH has been a consistent financial supporter of this project and recently, the Vliesstoff-Markt (www.vliessstoff-markt.de) has also generously supported the Heart Pillow Working Bee with the pillow stuffing demand. We would like to extend our thanks to all the working bee women and our supporters for their effort and commitment to the “From the Heart Pillow Project”.

The club offers a variety of events to its members throughout the year. The Assistant Activities Chair would work closely with Rachelle/ our elected Activities chair and help fill in during busy times or even take over recurring tasks during the year 2017.

·      Check incoming event requests from members, board and activity/ group leaders to see whether events overlap
·      Help in setting up the event as needed
·      Check regularly with board and activity group leaders whether there are upcoming events that need to be added to the calendar
·      Add events, workshops and seminars to our website calendar tool
·      Send out invitations to members with the calendar tool on our website
·      Check attendance and inform event hosts about feedback
·      Inform Secretary for newsletter and Membership Chair for Social Media and website on upcoming events

The AWCH needs you! We will be serving coffee and cookies at the US Consulate for all those who have appointment with Citizens Services. You certainly do not need to come for the whole day.
