Talk about face-lifts and fashion, it is surprising that twenty years after the release of The Devil Wears Prada (2006) that this sequel reveals an ageless and timeless cast. The opening scene shows a sophisticated, self-made New York journalist Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) winning an award and at the same time receiving a text message that her entire team has been laid off at the awards gala.
Her new position, much to her surprise, brings her back to her original team, including her old boss Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) who has not changed her style or manners a bit. Andy’s job is to create a new image for the magazine Runway due to a social media scandal that has gone viral, putting everyone working there at risk.
The film uses online politics to build up the backdrop of a scene of characters that sometimes support, sometimes challenge each other while always keeping a poker face as to what really is going on behind the scenes. The film is full of color, form, and crazy fashion ideas that know how to make a statement in the fashion world; it is also a place that seems unreal to the rest of us. One thing is for sure; if you don’t have money, class, and grit then it is clear it is impossible to survive in this environment. I was impressed with everyone and the role that they played and laughed at the scene of the surprise appearance of Lady Gaga at Milan Fashion Week. This is not a high brow affair but is fun for everyone who enjoys the world of fashion and the political intrigues that happen behind the scenes. 119 minutes (Shelly S.)
