Jazzy is a female orangutan, lost in the woods after a fire separated her from her parents. She is rescued and sent to live in a reservation with many other animals. One friend is the monkey Chance, who has a negative relationship with humans, saying, “People are killers.” Jazzy is an expert in making videos and sharing them with everyone. She believes that her parents are still alive, although the situation was dangerous. She leaves the reservation to look for them, accompanied by Chance. They help Honkus, a rhinoceros stuck in a pile of mud; he joins them to travel through the rain forest. Jazzy’s goal is not only to locate her parents, but also to save this rain forest, which is slowly turning into farmland and fields. On her tablet she can watch, make, and share videos along the way.
The original title is Ozi: Voice of the Forest and came out in 2023. Animals are everywhere including a snake, elephants, and many friendly red butterflies fluttering by. Another friend is a crocodile. Jazzy/Ozi eventually does find her father and mother. Throughout the eighty-seven minutes she speaks one language with other animals and another language with human beings. Her goal to save the rain forest eventually brings her to the United Nations. The storyline is rather basic: an “influencer” is aware of a problem and sets out to save the world. A lyric video of the song “One Heart Can (Change the World)” by Tiwa Savage is available online for public viewing, a fun opportunity, not only to listen to the song, but also to view scenes from the film. Most impressive is the animation, fun for everyone five years and older. (Becky T.)
