How does nature shape an artist’s work?

Join us for a tour with respected gallery educator Dr. Frances Livings to the upcoming exhibition: Nothing Without Nature. Animal Sculptures at Barlach Haus. The exhibition features works by the 20th-century German artist Ewald Mataré (1887-1965), whose carefully observed animal sculptures were strongly influenced by the natural landscapes of the North Sea and Baltic coasts.

The tour will also include selected sculptures by Ernst Barlach (1870-1938), offering interesting points of comparison between the two artists, especially in their shared interest in nature.
