Details:
Attention musical theater and art lovers! Thalia Theater is offering another of its fantastic traveling joint productions with acclaimed theaters and arts festivals in Paris, Cape Town, Barcelona, Montreal, Brussels and Montpellier. Faustus in Afrika is directed by internationally acclaimed artist William Kentridge. Kentridge’s fantastic animations often focusing on themes of social injustice in his native South Africa and neighboring countries, will be familiar to those of you who saw the great retrospective of his art at the Deichtorhallen during the pandemic. In Faustus in Africa, Kentridge has collaborated with the Handspring Puppet Company and brings his experience in theater direction and stage design for opera productions in well-known international venues. The play is based on the myth, most famously interpreted in the German classic by Goethe, of a scholar who sells his soul to the devil in return for immediate monetary gain, esteem, women and a pricey lifestyle. This Faustus is a character who sets out to experience the wonders of Africa on a safari which turns into a journey of plunder and greed. More info at https://www.thalia-theater.de/ |
