Art Tour of Rendezvous of Dreams: Surrealism and German Romanticism |

Please join us for a tour in English by AWCH member and art historian, Holly Todd, Ph.D., of Rendezvous of Dreams at the Hamburger Kunsthalle. This exhibition celebrates the 100th anniversary of the emergence of Surrealism in the 1920s by exploring parallels between and influences from 19th-century Romanticism on Surrealist artists. This focus both capitalizes on the Kunsthalle’s exceptional collection of Romantic art and expands on themes explored in the Caspar David Friedrich show last year. Organized jointly by the Kunsthalle and the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and also traveling to Brussels, Madrid and Philadelphia, the show has garnered international loans of some of the great masterpieces of Surrealism. Don’t miss this chance to see them right here in Hamburg and learn more about this influential and enduring art movement. After the tour optional coffee/cake at Café Liebermann in the museum.
