Jane (Leslie Mann), Sophie (Anna Faris), and Coco (Michelle Buteau) have been close friends since childhood. They meet up and decide to vacation together in a spa on the beach in Palm Springs. It’s also Jane’s birthday. Suddenly a fourth friend, Mel, shows up. Turns out that she has been invited by Sophie to come along. Jane and Coco are rather surprised since Mel (Isla Fisher) isn’t always an easy person. Together they lie on the beach and practice yoga. They have massages, sit in the cocktail bar, and enjoy the hotel swimming pool. Soon Coco’s ex-husband Roger (Dominic Ona-Ariki) arrives. Jane becomes a twosome with the good-looking yoga instructor. The girls cause problems in the spa, almost to the point of eviction. A wild party brings the police and eventually jail.

This is being presented as a “female buddy comedy.” It is predictable and repetitive, featuring four females, probably in their forties. (The four lead actresses are actually ages forty-nine to fifty-four.) The excellent cast effectively holds our attention. Naturally, there is much kissing. We enjoy four male dancers in gold shorts.  I learned a new phrase: “Chicks before dicks.” The final scene shows us results six months after the original action. Although the story takes place in Palm Springs, which is in California, USA, much of the photography was made on the beach and in the town of Gold Coast, both in Queensland, Australia. Supported by twenty-two songs. (Becky T.)v
