Grandfather Michel Munier spends much time in the forests, often accompanied by his son Vincent, and grandson Simon. They spend hours sitting behind a small blanket that they have hung up between some trees, watching and listening. They view foxes, deer, a lynx, a squirrel, and many, many birds: owls, woodcocks, and especially the capercaillie. Vincent photographs everything. Michel shares his history in the forests with Simon, including sleeping there at night, which he began doing at age twelve/thirteen. The environment is so important, still the population seems to ignore dangers caused by their illegal activities, as well as climate change, both of which are leading to an end of the earth as we know it. All of this was created 10,000 years ago. Now it can expect a future of perhaps just fifty years.
In this documentary we are in a magic world, disturbed only by airplanes flying overhead. We must view the story, follow suggestions, and, hopefully, come up with ways to support a more positive development. I came away with the impression, that we actually don’t need human beings on this earth. It works quite well without us. The title translates to Whispers in the Woods. These “whispers” are quite impressive, especially those of the birds, which Vincent, Michel, and Simon try, often successfully, to copy and whistle (whisper) back. (Becky T.)
