Hege, Romain, and Bjørn Tore travel to the frigid northernmost wilds of Norway to attend a unique school for trouble teens. They arrive exhausted by loneliness, social anxiety, and the crushing barrage of media pressures felt by their generation, in order to take part in a different way of life within a traditional “folk high school”. Dropped in the Arctic wilderness for one year, Hege, Romain, and Bjørn Tore must rely on themselves and a pack of loyal sled dogs as they pursue the daunting transition from childhood to adulthood. Freed from technology, social media, and the harsh noises of modern-day life, they learn to face themselves for the first time. Occasionally the honesty and frankness of the teens will inspire, other times bring tears. The commitment of the counselors and their personal investment in all the students are quite impressive. And added to all the emotions, challenges, and self-discoveries experienced by the teens is the intelligence and personality of each sled dog that joins them. Their experiences bring about some unexpected transformations. Beautifully filmed against a spectacular Norwegian landscape, this real-life journey is definitely worth the ride. (Mary W.)
