Julian Dillinger (Evan Peters) is an expert on the internet. He has brought figures from the digital world into reality. They are robots: male, female, blond, bearded—now, quite human, led by Ares (Jared Leto). These digital, “real-life” robots, coming from the cyberworld, do not exist very long in the real world. For example, Ares lasts only twenty-nine minutes, before he crashes. Most important is a code, which is desired, but impossible to get, because the mobile phone on which it is available has been thrown into a lake. Julian communicates with Eve Kim (Greta Lee) who is up in the mountains surrounded by snow, trying to connect to her ENCOM server. Julian’s mother manages her company, working on the computer. She dislikes interference from her son, even slapping him away. His robots are disturbing her business.
This is part three of the Tron series. The first was Tron in 1982, then Tron: Legacy in 2010. Now we have Tron: Ares. The robots bring action including fighting, burning, crashing, chaos, as well as technology into the plot. There are military jets and a war machine from the computer world called “Recognizer.” They ride around Seattle on motorcycles and in a small yellow car, all supported by wonderful music by Nine Inch Nails. Although supposedly in Seattle, it was filmed in Vancouver, British Colombia, Canada. Especially interesting is Jeff Bridges who has played in all three of the Tron films.
And how does Julian end up? (Becky T.)
