AWC Hamburg donates “From the Heart Pillows”.
On Monday, May 11, 2015 Susan S-W. and Tracy M. donated 60 heart pillows to the Mariahilf Breast Cancer Clinic. The Mariahilf is part of the Helios hospital system and is located in Harburg, just south of the Elbe. The pillows were made in February during a “working bee” open house in Tracy M.’s home. The AWC Hamburg has been working on the From the Heart Pillow Project for several years. To date we have donated 160 pillows that have been made during four different From the Heart Pillow Sewing Bees. These pillows in the shape of a heart are placed under the arm that helps relieve pressure and pain in post-operative breast cancer patients. Materials and stuffing costs can run quite high, and thus far all materials have been purchased through proceeds from the Bagel Fundraiser Sales and donated by AWCH members.
On another but similar note, the Coco-Mat pillow making event in October resulted in a total of 120 heart pillows that were donated by the Coco-Mat store in Blankenese. So far we have donated 50 of the Coco-Mat heart pillows to the Albertinen Hospital in Schnelsen. A few pillows have been donated to friends, relatives or store customers who are in need of a heart breast cancer pillow. There are still many pillows to be donated! No one should suffer through breast cancer without the help of one of these helpful heart shaped pillows.
