SUMMARY:Theater Group: Iphigenia in Splott
LOCATION:Sprechwerk\, Klaus-Groth-Straße 23
DESCRIPTION:Iphigenia in Splott All April Fools to the Theater!\n(Photo by Conrad Lüneb
urg)What better way to have some fun on April Fools’ Day than a visit to Sp
rechwerk to enjoy the latest Couch Theatre of Hamburg production, Iphigenia
in Splott!\nThis is a one-woman show in English with a new take on the cla
ssical figure of Iphigenia. Here’s the production text:\nIphigenia in Splot
t was written for the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, where it enjoyed two sell-o
ut runs. It then went on to the Edinburgh Fringe and the National Theatre i
n London. It won Best New Play at the UK Theatre Awards in 2015. The origin
al production was also included in The Guardian’s 50 Best Theatre Shows of
the 21st Century.\nEffie, if you met her on the street, is the kind of girl
you would avoid eye contact with. Her life is a mixture of drugs, alcohol
and drama. She will give you the finger without batting an eyelid. But, lik
e so many let down by society and the government, despite all her bravado s
he ultimately has no voice and no one to speak for her. However, our Greek
heroine, via a poor British suburb, finally finds her voice and when she do
es there’s no stopping her. Gary Owen’s tense, heartbreaking yet witty mono
logue feels, as The Guardian five-star review put it, almost like the begin
ning of a revolution.\nIn Greek mythology, Iphigenia was Agamemnon’s daught
er, sacrificed to ensure a fair wind to Troy and to further the ambitions o
f men. Who, we must ask ourselves, in today’s society are continually being
sacrificed in order for others to pursue the insatiable desire for growth
and profit?\nRead more about this production and purchase a ticket here: ht
 tps://sprechwerk.hamburg/produktionen/iphigenia-in-splott (https://sprechwe
 rk.hamburg/produktionen/iphigenia-in-splott)\nFor convenience and input of
Covid data we ask you to purchase your ticket yourself, in advance. Tickets
are unnumbered and cost 19,40€ (print at home). The Sprechwerk is a small
theater and spaces are limited, so it’s first come, first served. Come alon
g, bring a friend or partner, and have a wonderful evening!\nThis productio
n is currently 2G with masking; in any case we will adhere to the valid rul
es for Covid (AWCH and Sprechwerk) that will apply on April 1.\nPlease sign
