The Thanksgiving season falls in the middle of a
Corona wave this year, and in these unprecedented times many of our Hambur
g neighbors have suddenly been faced with layoffs and salary cuts. That mak
es it so much harder for so many people in this city to feed themselves and
their families. Let's help!
We will be collecting donations of non-perishable food items fo
r the Hamburger Tafel at many locations throughout the city. This is a wond
erful tradition of the AWCH which is particularly needed this year.
The following items are particularly wel
come:
- STAPLES like rice, noodles, beans, pasta
sauces, canned goods and preserves, jams.
- PERSONAL COSMETIC ITEMS like toothbrushes, toothp
aste, sanitary products for women.
- TREATS: As the holiday season grows closer, treats like chocolate, Christmas cookies, sweets, coffee and spices are real
ly appreciated.
But as th
e Tafel says, actually they can use everything!
We welcome donations of 4-5 items for you to drop o
ff at a close collection point (we will have 11 of these points around the
city), or we will pick it up at your house when you contact us. We will mai
ntain careful social distancing and hygiene rules for your safety when we c
ollect the items, or you arrange to leave a bag at the doorstep. The collec
tors will transport our donated items to the food warehouse of the Hamburge
r Tafel, which accepts donations in bulk.
