FAWCO 2009 Region 5 Meeting

Aachen, Germany is a city of incredible history. Hot springs attracted the Romans and later Frankish royalty to the area. It was Charlemagne's favored city of residence, and as such, became the political center of his medieval empire. Following his legacy, most of the Holy Roman Emperors from the 10th to the 16th century were crowned "King of the Germans" in Aachen.*
See the glorious sights of Aachen:
The 14th-century city hall ["Rathaus"] lies between two central places, the Markt (market place) and the Katschhof (between city hall and cathedral). The coronation hall is on the first floor of the building. Inside you can find five frescoes by the Aachen artist Alfre Rethel which show legendary scenes from the life of Charlemagne, as well as Charlemagne's signature. *
