And the winner is…Marinell Haegelin with 17 out of 24 right answers on the Oscar ballot! Runner up was Osanna Vaughn. Thirteen Academy Award fans met at the home of Nancy Tilitz at nine on the morning of March 8. Cat Connor had spent the night recording the Academy Awards straight from Hollywood and we promised not to peek, listen to the radio or TV, or read the newspapers before assembling for our own private viewing. There was a huge breakfast buffet; the technical presentation was perfect; everyone was an “expert.” We agreed that trends for women were strapless dresses and locks of hair hanging down one side of the face, while men showed up with beards. We were most surprised at Best Foreign-Language film: El Secreto de sus Ojos, after some of us had already made the effort to see The White Ribbon. Altogether, 13 films won, some more than once, and 10 had been seen by at least one person in the Breakfast Oscar Group.
