We are a group of novices, amateurs, and professionals who created the club's website and who try to keep it interesting and informative, not only for club members but also for other English-speaking Hamburg residents. We meet every other month for a couple of hours, alternately at Jennifer M's home in Poppenbüttel, or at a cafe in the city. Webteam
Profile (by Jennifer M) The
October 2003 issue of Currents was edited by the webteam: Jean

M, Frauke R-H, Becky T, Tanja T and Judy W. Maybe you have wondered
what kind of women are so interested in computers and the Internet that
they are willing to work on our club’s website? Well, I can tell
you that we are not all computer experts, nor are we all trained computer
professionals. We are a bunch of women who think it is important that
our club be represented on the Internet. We hope that our website is
informative and entertaining, not only for our members, but also for
the English-speaking population in Hamburg and around the world.
But what kind of educational and professional backgrounds do we have? Amongst us, we have one B.S., four B.A.’s, two B.B.A.’s, one M.F.A., one M.A. and one Dr. rer. nat. in subjects as varied as Education, Dance History and Criticism, International Relations, Marketing, History, Germanic Studies, International Economics, German Literature, Chemistry, Modern Languages and Linguistics and German. So you see, none of us is an educated computer specialist. Our professional backgrounds are just as varied, including four teachers, an international banking specialist, a marketing and account executive, a licensed massage therapist, a graphic and website designer, an IT business systems engineer, a product development manager, an international marketing specialist, an equities strategist, a financial journalist, a designer of integrated circuits, a translator of scientific texts, and several housewives. Not only are we well-educated and professionally trained, we also speak a variety of languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Russian. Our hometowns and the hometowns of our partners are spread out all over the world. In the USA, we are from Kirksville, MO; St. Louis, MO; Columbus, OH; South Bend, IN (twice); Los Angeles, CA; Santa Clara, CA; New Jersey; Brockton, MA; Houston, TX; Miami, FL; Baltimore, MD; and New York, NY. In Germany, we are from Stolzenau, Hamburg (three times), Lüneburg (three times), Neumünster and Jarmen/Greifswald. Other international hometowns are Menado, Indonesia and Azores, Portugal. Two of us are natives of Northern Germany, five identify themselves as lifelong residents of Hamburg, one is a temporary visitor and four qualify themselves as indefinite residents. Our newest arrival to the area has been here a mere 3 ½ years, while our veterans are reaching the 40-year mark. In addition to enjoying working on the webteam, we also have the following hobbies: traveling, family, reading, in-line skating, the AWC, movies, writing, knitting, classical music, playing guitar, singing, tennis, skiing, literature, gardening, FAWCO, scrapbooking, personal fitness, cycling, equestrian sports, portrait painting, cooking, jogging, Internet surfing, power walking, hiking, camping and needlecrafts. Now that you know who we are and what we are all about, aren’t you interested in joining us? We have informal meetings about six times a year, either in Poppenbüttel, where children are welcome to attend, or at a central location in the city. Everyone chooses tasks personally tailored to her abilities. No one is expected to be a computer expert, nor take on any task she does not feel up to tackling. We need everyone’s input and advice to continue to make our website informative and entertaining for all our members and for the general public who also visit our site.
