One of our groups meets one morning a week in each other’s homes in and around the Poppenbüttel area (currently Poppenbüttel, Volksdorf, Sasel, Wellingsbüttel and Duvenstedt). Our children range in age from 6 months to 4 years. Our other group meets one afternoon a week and is for children 3 and up (currently our youngest is 3 and the oldest is 6). In our morning group, we offer the children the opportunity to learn to play together in English. The moms enjoy conversation and refreshments and share advice and information. We do seasonal crafts and enjoy singing songs. In the summers, we try to play outside as much as possible. In our afternoon group, we try to offer the children more challenging activities in English, such as pre-school activity work sheets, more complex crafts and science experiments. We also have enjoyed mother/child slumber parties, bar-b-ques with dads included and a Lantern Parade every fall with self-made lanterns and refreshments. Meeting in each other’s homes lends a personal touch to our groups, and participants feel a sense of community and belonging.
